This award is given out to the filmmaker who has gone beyond the traditional narrative to create and tell stories that engage, educate, inspire and challenge the way we think about ourselves, our environment and our narrative. Both of your films have changed the way we look at filmmaking and has deconstructed so many narratives allowing audiences to think differently about the way the see films and see people of color in films.
